The global energy system is undergoing an epochal shift: the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and moving away from fossil fuels calls for major choices — between a possible return to nuclear power, with new-generation plants that are safer and more efficient but require significant time and investment to build, and the development of renewable energy sources, which are quick to install but require adequate grid and storage infrastructure.
To address this debate with accurate information and a rigorous, technical approach, we brought together four experts from SUPSI, who discussed the potential (and the limits) of nuclear and photovoltaic energy:
